Change in Knowledge of our universe over time

  • Galileo describes and discovers the moon

During the Early 1600s, Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei developed his early telescope in order to see a clearer version of the moon in order to describe what the moon would look like with craters around it. Other than that, Galileo also discovered all of the moons of Jupiter, leading him to reject the geocentric model of the universe as a result.
  • Celestial Objects Discovered

Before the year 1931, many celestial objects that emit radio waves weren't discovered as of yet. However, during the year 1931, those celestial objects slowly began being discovered by astronomers using radio telescopes, which are used to study stars and galaxies as well as giant clouds of gas.
  • The discovery of Quasars

Before the year 1960, quasars were thought to have been believed to be and described as normal stats, however, during the year 1960, it was stated that quasars were considered to be the most distant objects in the universe.
  • Invention of the First radio telescope

During the year 1989, a telescope known as the Cosmic Background Explorer was invented by the NASA Goddard Space Flight centre, making it the first ever radio telescope ever created.
  • More clearer versions of the Universe

As of approximately July 2022, the NASA James Webb space telescope, which was made in the year 2015 by American company Northrop Grumman, took more complete pictures of the universe, displaying never before seen objects across some aspects, therefore, allowing us to further extend our knowledge beyond the universe as seen through other types of telescopes such as Radio Telescopes and Infrared Telescopes.
