First mobile phone service introduced
n 1949 AT&T commercialized Mobile Telephone Service. The phones they used were not cell phones but were poratble and called mobile phones. From its start in St. Louis in 1946, AT&T then introduced Mobile Telephone Service to one hundred towns and highway corridors by 1948. Mobile Telephone Service was a rarity with only 5,000 customers placing about 30 000 calls each week. -

First Cell Phones
The first mobile phone was created by motorola in 1973. These were advancements on the zeroth generation (0G) phones. The 0G phones weren't cellular and supported few calls. They were also very expensive at the time. -
First commercial Cell phone
DynaTAC 8000xThe Motorola DynaTAC 8000x was sold as the first commercial handheld cellular phone in 1983. The 8000x weighed about 1.75 pounds, stood 13 inches high, stored 30 numbers, took 10 hours to recharge for just 30 minutes of talk time or 8 hours of standby and cost $3,995. -
