AT&T
The Mobile Telephone Service was launched in 1949 by AT&T. It was located only in St. Lewis in 1948 but a year later could be accessed in over 100 cities. It was similar to a walkie-talkie, had only three channels to only three people at once could make a call,it could be placed in your car but it was 36kg of extra equipment. It cost about $15 a month which today that would cost $200 a month.

IMTS
AT&T created the Improved Mobile Telephone Service (IMTS) in 1964. They responded to the complaints and added more radio channels, customer dialing so operators didn't have to connect calls, the equipment also didn't weigh 36kg. Too many people were trying to make calls so the government had to restrict calls to only 40,000 people.

Londons Service
The Postoffice Radio Service needed to have an operator to connect the calls. Calls could be connected all across Great Britain and was introduced to London in 1965 and in 1975 in could reach other major cities in the UK.

In 1973 the first cell phone call was made. Martin Cooper from Motorola made a call to Dr. Joel Engel from Bell Labs. The phone that was used was an early prototype of DynaTAC.

1G
In 1979 in Tokyo 1G, the first automated cellular network was developed. In 1981 more countries such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland received the network. North America first received 1G in 1983. The worst problem on this network was that it was easy to eavesdrop, but the first phone DynaTAC was still released on it since people didn't care about security they just wanted the new phone.

The First Smartphone

3G and 4G
When people decided they needed phones in their everyday lives they new 2G wasn't going to cut it. 3G was released from Tokyo in 2001. Instead of circuit switching it switched to packet switching which made for faster data speeds. 4G later came out with faster speeds that were up to 10 times faster. Wimax standard and LTE standard were developed with the 4G.
