Appomattox Courthouse-General Lee surrenders to Grant
The Appomattox Courthouse was one of the six most significant events during the time period of the civil war because it was where General Lee surrendered to Grant. This surrender was significant because this meant that the war was over. The cause of this event was was that General Grant wanted to arrange a meeting to speak with Lee about the terms of surrender, and negotiate. The effect was that Lee surrendered because he didn't want to fight any longer and the consequences were reasonable.
