Militarism
This is when the nation strenghtens their military in preperation for war. The glorification of war is incorporated into every aspect of society. It even included education from the nations youth. Militaristic societies have existed throughout human history. Japan defeated Russia in the Russo-Japanese War. This was the first time any Asian powwr had defeated a major European Power. -
Treaty of Versailles
This was a treaty that addressed issues such as teritorial adjustments, reparations, armanent restriction, etc. It was addressed by the winning nations after Germany lost WWII. The treaty made Germany have bad feelings & served as a type of punishment. Germany had accepted the blame from the war and had to pay millions to Britain and France. Britain and France promised territory that ended up being denied which left Italy in disappointment. -
Rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party
Before the economic depression struck, the nazi's were basically unknown. In 1932 elections, the Nazis won 33% of the votes which totaled more than any other group did. Hitler was announced the head of the German government. Many Germans believed they have found a savior for their nation. -
U.S. Isolationism
The failure of peace efforts such as the Kellogg Briand Treaty during the 1920's. dillusioned many Americans about International involvement. U.S. was involved throughout the 1930's. and was most concerned with itself. -
Rise of Italian fascism
Fascism is a form of government which glorifies the state, has one leader & party, etc. It had a desire to expand Italian territory. Italian Fascism opposed liberalism. Benito Mussolini created this political movement. -
Great Depression
Many European economies became unstable after WWI. The stock market crashed in 1929 and it spread throughout the world. Economies decreased drastically & unemployment rose. This day that started the Great epression is known as Black Tuesday. -
Nationalism
It is the belief in the superiority of one's own nation over all others. It could also on the down side lead to major conflicts between nations.Three people tried to dominate all others during the years leadind up to WWII. Nationalism developed in England and France. -
Japanese Expansionism
Japan invaded Manchuria in 1931. It led to the attack of China the same year. Wars started breaking out in Sino-Japanese War in the year of 1937. Japan and the Soviet Union broke out in war 1 year later in 1938 in the war known as the Soviet- Japanese Border Wars. -
Anti- Communism
THis meant all means of production are controlled by the government. Media, property, and all aspects of society are also controlled by them. Most people chose facism over communism. Hitler made alot of people have a fear of communist takeover. -
Appeasement
Appeasement is the act of giving in to an enemy's demands in hopes of avoiding further conflict. Hitler demanded that Czechoslavakia ded the Sudentenland to Germany in 1938. The German population living there was claimed to be mistreated. The French and British aggred to Hitler's demands without consulting Czechoslavakian leaders hoping this would avoid war. -
WWII began
World War II was fought in Europe, North Africa, Asia, Pacific & Atlantic Ocean. The Axis Powers Japan, Italy, and Germany were fighting the Allied Powers: United States, Austrailia, Canada, New Zealand, India, China, & The Soviet Union. Hitler invaded Poland from the west and Britain & France declared war two days later which began WWII.
