League of Nations
The League of Nations came into being after WW1 and it was created to maintain world peace and would sort out international disputes when they occurred. The League of Nations didn't do anything when Japan invaded Manchuria; it also didn't do anything when Italy invaded Ethiopia, so Germany tested the organization: it remobilized the Rhineland(a territory in which it was not supposed to have any troops). Again, the League of Nations didn't do anything which was another cause of WW2. -
Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of VersaillesThe Treaty of Versailles reassigned German boundries and assigned liability for reparations. The Treaty of Versailles lead to World War 2 because Hitler wanted to gain more power and he startd taking away land Germany lost in WW1 and he built up Germany's army. -
Extreme Nationalism (Hitler and the Nazi)
Nationalism is the belief that people who share a common language, history, and culture should constitute an independent nation, free of foreign domination The German Workers Party, also known as the Nazis, built their empire from the common ground of extreme nationalism. The party was built under opposition of the Treaty of Versailles, anti-Semitic, anti-Monarchist, anti-Marxist opinions and the solid belief that German nationalists were a superior race which was a cause leading to WW2. -
The Great Depression in Germany
The depression is a long and severe recession in an economy or market. When the German economy plummeted and unemployment rose people turned to powerful leaders and governments who promised success through military build up and the conquest of military. At the time Hitler seemed like the perfect person for the job because the German people were vunurable and Hitler was the only person promising to take on their problems. -
Japanese Expansionsim
Expansionism is the policy of territorial or economic expansion. Japan wanted to expand their land for materials which lead to different wars with differnet countries and it eventually lead to WW2. Japan invavded Manchuria for raw materials in 1931. In the same year Japan started to attack China which caused WW2. Japan also attacked the Soviet Union which was also a cause of WW2. -
Appeasement
Appeasement is the policy of making concessions to the dictatorial powers in order to avoid conflict. France and Britian thought if they gave Hitler Rhineland he'll be happy and won't have to go to war. But Hitler kept on taking over countries and building up his army, and France and Britian kept on looking the other way; which was a cause leading to WW2. -
Germany Invades Poland
Hitler's Speech Declaring War on PolandGerman units with over 2,000 tanks and 1,000 planes broke through Polish defenses and advanced to Warshaw. Warsaw surrendered to the Germans on September 27, 1939. Germany invaded Poland because Hitler wanted more power. Britan and France, standing by their guarentee of Poland's border, declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939. Britian and France knew if they didn't declare war Germany would try to invade them to gain more power. -
Isolationism
Isolationism is a policy of remaining apart from the affairs or interests of other groups, especially the political affairs of other countries. The United States of America decided from the beginning of WW2 that they were going to be isolationists, but if they joined the war sooner they could have prevented Hilter rising into dictatorship. -
Japan Attacks Pearl Harbor
President Roosevelt's Speech on the Attack of Pearl HarborHundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded. The day after the attack Franklin D. Roosevelt asked congress to declare war on Japan. Three days later, Japanese allies Germany and Italy also declared war on the United States. -
Divison in the West
France and Britian were at odds with each other regarding Germany during WW2. France wanted to keep the Treaty of Versailles in place and keep Germany poor and military week. Britian on the other hand felt that a strong Germnay was an asset to English industries. Since France and Britan didn't agree on what to do with Germany it gave Hilter time to build up his army.
