Pancho Villa was a rebel from Mexico. Supplied with weapons from Germany he invaded New Mexico. Germany thought that with the US occupied with Pancho Villa they wouldn't have time to partake in the war. -

After Germany sunk yet another passenger ship, President Wilson was ready to take action. Germany, seeing that the US was ready to fight, then promised that they would not attack another passenger ship unless it contained weapons. -

The Zimmerman note was a telegraph sent from Germany to Mexico. It promised that if Mexico sided with Germany then Germany would give American land that was previously owned by Mexico back to the Mexican government. -
