Treaty of Paris ends the French & Indian War
Defeated by Britain and its allies, France was forced to cede all of Canada; Spain obtained French Louisianna in exchange for Florida which was given to the British. The war left Britain heavily in debt. -
The Sugar Act
Sugar Act placed a tax of three pence per gallon on molasses as well as listed specific goods which could be exported to Britain. It also called for strict enforecement, causing an economic downturn in the colonies.
