Missouri Compromise 1820
This is where Missouri wanted to become a state and that would make the scale unequal with slave states and free states. Congress came up with the idea to put a line on the 33rd parrell and everything under it will be a slave state. -
Wilmot Proviso
This was an idea by a man named Wilmot to get rid of the gag rule about slavery and this caused congress to talk about their differences and pushed them closer to war. -

Compromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850 was signed by Millard Fillmore. The compromise was meant to be a compromise between the south and north to fix the problems with slavery. Instead of fixing the problems the compromise made the problem much worse for both sides. it effected history by pushing america towards the civil war. -
Fugitive slave act
This basically allowed the south go to the north and take and black person and claim that they were a salve even if they weren't a slave. This event happened because of the compromise of 1850. This effected the north by taking away parts of their society. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Uncle Tom's Cabin; or, Life Among the Lowly, is an anti-slavery novel by American author Harriet Beecher Stowe. Published in 1852, the novel "helped lay the groundwork for the Civil War. This novel Helped everyone see the horrors of slavery in the south. It effected history by pushing america towards slavery. -
Millard Fillmore 1850-1853
Millard Fillmore was bought into presidency by his predisposer dying. His Contribution to the civil war was the compromise of 1850 which divided the nation. -
Franklin Pierce 1853- 1857
Pierce saw ending slavery as a threat to the union and pushed the signing for the Kansas- Nebraska act and enforced the fugitive slave act. He set the stage for the southern secession and civil war. -

The Dred Scott Case
This is where Dred Scott tried to sue a slave owner but the supreme court ruled that he is property and he has no rights and must go and do whatever his owner says. This impacted history because it gave slave owners the power to move all across the country. -
James Buchanan 1857- 1861
James tried to hold the nation together but it only divided more. many southern states left the union. -

This is where Lincoln lost the election for senator but used his speeches in a book and won the election of 1860. The debates took place in Illinois. This effected history be allowing Lincoln to become President -
Harper Ferry 1859
This is where John brown and his family invaded the U.S. arsenal and expected thousands of slaves to join them but no one came. so John Brown was captured. this started the fighting. -
Lincoln's election of 1860
This was when Lincoln was elected president. This effected history by separated the nation and started the civil war. -

This is where 11 states lefted the union and created a confederacy. This effected the union by starting the war and fighting with the union
