Missouri Compromise regulated slavery in the country's western territories. The compromise was not liked by the southerners because it established the principle that congress could make laws regarding slavery. Northerners, on the other hand condemned it for consent in the expansion of slavery. -

This law was a part of the compromise of 1850. It was a law that citizens had to catch run away slaves. If a person comply, they could be fined up to $1,00 or put in jail. -

This was a novel written by Harriett Beecher Stowe. It was written to show the evils of slavery by telling the story of an older slave who was whipped to death by his owner. After reading it it changed many people's out look on slavery. -
Kansas Nebraska Act

Pottowatomi Creek Killings
Because of the violence going on in Kansas, John Brown and four of his sons decided to take the law into their own hands. They ride into a small town named Pottowatomi Creek and pulled five pro-slavery men out of their beds in the middle of the night. The men are murdered. Lincoln ran against Douglass in the Presidential Election of 1860. The Southern states did not like Lincoln or what he believed in. They supported Douglass yet Lincoln still got elected.
