  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War was apart of a larger global conflict called the Seven Years War. The French and British had the most territorial disputes within North America during this war. Both countries wanted access to the profitable fur trade business and the cheap fertile land west of the Appalachian Mountains. Although the British lost majority of the initial battles they ultimately won the war. The war caused relations to worsen between the British and the Colonists.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The British Parliament passed the Sugar Act in 1764 in order to help pay for their debt from the French and Indian War as well as to pay for the troops guarding the Proclamation Line of 1763. It forced the colonists to pay a 3 cent tax on goods like sugar, coffee, indigo and certain kinds of alcohol. The colonists were not happy with this law because they had no say in parliament. The slogan “No Taxation without Representation” became popular in the colonies.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The British Parliament passed the Stamp Act in 1765 in order to support the British soldiers protecting the Proclamation Line. The Stamp Act required that a stamp purchased by the British government had to be placed on all important documents like court papers, newspapers and even playing cards. The colonists were outraged because they were paying for troops that were keeping them out of the land they had just fought for in the French and Indian War.
  • Sons Of Liberty

    Sons Of Liberty
    A well-organized political organization shrouded in secrecy that was established to undermine British rule in colonial America. This group spang up in port cities like Boston and NYC. Group member were men from all walks of life, and they were known to be hot headed and violent.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts taxed imported items such as paper, glass, paint and tea. The English Parliament passed this act to cover costs of the French and Indian War, as well as to show that they still had power over the colonies. The colonists were outraged with this act so they held public demonstrations, boycotted products and smuggled in goods. Parliament eventually decided to repeal this act because of colonial protests.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    On March 5 1770 there was a violent confrontation between the British soldiers and the colonists. Five colonist were shot because the British thought the leader said shoot cause people were saying shoot behind the soldiers. John Adams was hesitant to the counsel because he would face a lot of backlash from the colonist. John Adams had to listen to the colonist point of view and the British point of view. After the trial the captain preston and his soldiers were not guilty of murder.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The sons of liberty dressed up as Native american mohawks. They snuck on the boat and dumped the tea in the water. The sons of liberty did not destroy anything. They just wanted to prove a point about the taxes. 342 crates of tea got dumped into the water.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston tea party took place in 1773 it is about the colonist dumping the British tea into the water. Some colonies refused and made them take it back or left it to rot on the docks. The sons of Liberty dressed up as Native Americans so it wouldn’t seem as suspicious.

    coercive(Intolerable) Acts
    The English government was mad about the rebellious Boston tea party so it punished the colonist by making laws called the coercive acts. The coercive acts are laws for the colonist also called as the Intolerable acts cause they were truly not tolerable.
  • The First Continental congress

    The First Continental congress
    They discussed the current crisis and express their outrage with the coercive acts. The meeting was called the first continental congress. They brought in leaders like George Washington,John Adams,Patrick Henry,John Jay,Samuel Adams and others. They had it in Carpenters hall Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

     The Battles of Lexington and Concord
    In 1775 900 red coats were heading to Lexington to take all of of the weapons and arrest the order leader. A man named Paul Raver went to warn all of the colonist about the British soldiers that were coming. 60 militia men lined up against hundreds of British soldiers. When the British won Lexington they went to concord. The British won Lexington the first battle but the colonist won the second battle in concord.
