The Navigation Acts
This act made ALL of the colonies imports to be either bought from England or resold by English merchants in England. Colonists began smuggling goods. That caused British soldiers to go to the colonies and search the colonists imports. -
The French and Indian War
The French and British wanted to extend their colonies into the Ohio territory, on the west side of the Appalachian Mountains. That caused King George to make new taxes on the colonies. The King prohibited settlement anywhere beyond west of the Appalachian Mountains -

Sugar Act
Molasses and sugar were taxed.
People started smuggling sugar and molasses. -
Stamp Act
Taxed all legal documents and papers. They sent stamp agents to collect money from people.

Quartering Act
Britain asked the colonist to host 1,000 soldiers and supply them necessities. Colonist refused and British soldiers had to sleep on their. -
Declaratory Act of 1767
Declaration of by the British Parliament, later followed the repeal of the Stamp Act. -
Townshend Act
British taxed glass, lead, paper, paint and tea. It resulted in the Boston Massacre. -
The Boston Massacre
Colonists were getting angry about how the British soldiers were taking over their houses and belongings, so the colonists fought back against the soldiers. -
Committees of Correspondence
Network of communication for passing along news of British activity to the colonists. They rallied and formed a political union among the Thirteen Colonies. -
The Tea Act
British taxed tea, this lead to the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Tea Party
Colonists attacked the Britain ships. The effect was that colonists smuggled tea, tea protests widespread Brits didn't like colonists. -
The Intolerable Act of 1774
Boston's port was closed, Britain severely limited town meetings, they only called trials in Britain and Canadez -
First Continental Congress
Colonists finally stopped following British rule, and a unified boycott was approved. None of the colonists would buy any British goods, and the colonies began to fend for themselves. They no longer depend on Britain's goods, and 98% of the colonists agreed with the boycott. -
The Second Continental Congress
It managed the colonial war effort, and moved incrementally towards independence. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
The Patriots surrounded Boston on every side except Charlestown. When the Patriots finally shot, fire sent the line of British soldiers reeling. -
Olive Branch Petition
A letter to King George III, from members of the Second Continental Congress, the last attempt by the moderate party in North America to avoid war of the independence against Britain. -
Shot Heard 'Round the World
This shot started the American Revolution. -
Thomas Paine's Common Sense
Thomas wrote a pamphlet about the colonist's fight for independence.
