John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute Is made head of the House of Lords
The Whigs within the British government despised Bute and blamed him for every fault. -

Bute left office becuase he grew tired of public life. -
Pontiac's Rebellion
In the spring of 1763 multiple tribes led by Pontiac attacked areas in Virginia and Pennsylvania. 2000 lives were lost a a result, and it made the colonist question how usefull the army acutally was. -
Proclaimation of 1763
This forbade governors from granting land beyond the headwaters of rivers flowing into the Atlantic. -
The Sugar Act
This act was an addition to the Navagation acts that gave trade rights to the colonies exclusevly to Britain.This also reduced the duties on molasses in an atempt to stop corruption and bribery. -
Stamp Act of 1765
This act was an attempt to squeeze nearly £60,000 out of the Americans, this was acheived by placing a mandatory stamp on all leagal documents including marriages which hit the colonist at home. -
The Stamp Act Congress
This congress wrote to the king that they beleived they should be represented in decisions such as the stamp act. -
Declaratory Act
This act was made right after repealing the Stamp Act to show that Parliment had power over the colonies in all matters. -
Townshend Acts
These acts put duties on paper, glass, paint, lead, and tea. This act also createaated many Vice Admiralty Courts. -
Massachusetts Drafts the "Circular Letter"
This was an attempt to thwart the townshend acts that ended in failer. -
Lord North is made First Minister
Lord North will serve twelve years and throught the Revolution. -
Boston Massacare
Five people were killed by British regulars after paniking and firing into a crowd. The soliders were let go and caused much anger in the colonies. -
The Gaspee incident
Rhode Islanders burned a merchant ship and the colonist cheered. -
The Tea Act 1773
This act lowered the price of tea but gave the East India Company full control of the tea trade in the colonial market. This angered colonist that were making a good living smuggling tea and delegaters saw it as another way of taxing them without representation. -
Boston Tea Party
A group of men poured 340 crates of tea into the harbor worth about £10,000 into the harbor. This was the last syraw for the British who sent troops and layed down marshall law. -
First Continental Congress
This Congress met to discuss what should be done about the intolerable acts. They decided to end trade with Britain until the Acts were removed. -
Coercive Acts
These acts: closed the boston harbor until the company was compensated for the tea, placed restrictions on the local assemblies, corrupt English officials were shipped to England, and authorized the army to quarter troops wherever needed. -
Lexington-Concord
British troops on the way to disarme millitia groups were fired apon by colonist at Lexington and returned a volley which killed eight of them. Afterwards minutimen from around the country gathered to attack the army, starting the Revolutionaty War.
