Washington's Fort Necessity
George Washington led a 150 militia volunteer militia force to modern day Pittsburgh. He ordered the French army to return home to France; that the British will have this Ohio Valley land... Later, the French Army returned to fort Necessity, greatly outnumbering Washington's band, and forced Washington to surrender. Washington's militiamen were allowed to go home.
George returned to Virginia stating, "We struck the first blow" against the French. -

French and Indian War ambush--raised the stakes for GB
General Edward Braddock marched 1400 British Redcoats and colonial militia from Virginia to Ft. Duquesne (same fort Washington went to). On July 9, the column was brutally attacked by the French Indian allies. Only 400 redcoats and colonials survived. George Washington was one of the survivors. British Prime Minister vowed to "win at all costs" now.
