Video Camera
The first true photographic camera, capable of creating permanent images, is generally credited to Nicéphore Niépce in 1816. His process, called "heliography," used light-sensitive bitumen to create images, but exposure times were extremely long (up to eight hours). His 1827 heliograph, "View from the Window at Le Gras," is considered the oldest surviving photograph. -

Television ( TV )
- March 25, 1925: John Logie Baird, a Scottish inventor, gave the first public demonstration of a mechanical television system using a spinning Nipkow disk. This system could transmit moving silhouette images, though the quality was very crude.
- September 7, 1927: Philo Farnsworth, an American inventor, successfully demonstrated the first fully electronic television system using a cathode ray tube (CRT). This system transmitted a simple image of a dollar sign.
