When Catherine was born her original name was Sophie Friederike Auguste von Anhalt- Zerbst. She was 15 when she was received into the Russian Orthodox church and rechristened as Catherine. -
Marriage
Catherine the great got married to the Grand Duke Peter. -
First child born
Catherine gave birth to a baby boy, which they named Paul. -

Catherine's second child, Anna died at the age of 2. -
Death of Empress Elizabeth
After Empress Elizabeth died, Catherine's husband, Peter became Czar. Many people were not happy with his behavior and wanted to overthrow him. However Catherine on the other hand gained many supporters and followers, therefor she took over and became empress. -
Third child is born
Catherine gave birth to her third child, Alexei. -

Peter was assassinated eight days after Catherine proclaimed herself empress of Russia. -
