Birth
Sophie August was born in a German city of Stettin, Prussia (now Poland). She was born into a royal family. Her father was Christian August and her mother was Princess Johanna Elisabeth. Sophie's mother spent much of her time on Wihelm Christian wich was her younger brother, and her mother had little intrest in Sophia. -
Anna of Russia.
Anna died of kidney disease. She left the throne to her adopted infant son, Ivan VI. -
Marriage
After Sophia was accpeted into Russian Orthodox Church she changed her name to Catherine. At the age of 16 Catherine moved foward with her relationship with Grand Duke Peter of Holstein, heir to the Russian throne. The marriage was unhappy and neither were faithful. -

An earthquake destroys much of Lima, and an ensuing tidal wave engulfs its port at Callao. Cused almost complete destruction of the capital Lima. -
First born
After two misscarriages Catherine gave birth to her first child, Paul. At the time she was having an affair with Sergei Saltykov who was a Russian noble and member of the court. It was not clear weather Sergei or Peter was the father. -
Death of Empress Elizabeth
Elizabeth died leaving no children as heirs. She had never married due to disputes within her family. Soon after Peter took the throne then he took the name of Tsar Peter lll. -
Being crowned
Catherine overthrown Peter and took control. She then realized she knew very little about the empire that she had taken over. She ended up being a great ruler. -
Smonly Institude
The first of the Russia's educational establishment. For wealthy girls who came from the best families. The girls were approved by Catherine herself. Not only to develope their best qualities but to pass their education. -
Law passed
Catherine passed a law whereby any serfs who complained of ill-treatment at their master becomes liable to punishment by beating with a knotted rope and life exile to Siberia for hard labor. -
The Nakaz
A major document of the Enlightenment. A new code of laws for the Russian empire. The Nakaz was torture and capital punishment. -

Catherine worried about small childern dying from the dieses known as the small pox. Catherine tried a vacination that a doctor came up with to make sure it works and it did, -
First mail coach
The first mail coach leaves Bristol for London, introducing a new era of faster transport. Post coach was a horse drawn carriage that carried mail deliveries. -
Russo-Turkish War
Involved a failed attempt by the Ottoman Empire to regain lands lost to Russia. War was then declared. -
Battle of Hogland
Took place during the Russo Swedish War. Swedish ship was only one left against Russian ships. Gunfire finally ended with the surrender of Prins Gustaf. -
Treaty of Jassy
Signed by Grand Vizier Koca Yusuf Pasha and Prince Bezborodko. Ending the RussoTurkish War and confirming Russia's increasing dominance in the Black Sea. -
Death
Catherine died in Saint Petersburg, Russia. She suffered a stroke and died in her bed, Catherine had many accomplishments but was better remembered for her romantic liaisons.
