Holden got kicked out of his preppy school, Pencey. He was failing all his classes except English. -

Jane Gallagher was Holdens old friend. When Stradlater told Holden who his date was Holden could not beileve it. He got flustered and kept saying he should go down and say hi, but he never actually did. -
Holden fights with Stradlater
Stradlater did not like the paper Holden wrote for him, which caused Holden to rip it apart. Then Holden asked about Stradlater's date with Jane but Stradlater did not like that either. Holden goes to New York
Holden decided to hang around New York for a few days because he could not go back home right away unless he wanted his parents to find out he got kicked out of school. -
Holden meets a lady on the train
Holden got on a train to go to New York. A lady started a conversation and told him that she was Ernest Morrow's mother. After talking to Holden for awhile she invited him to visit Erine in the summer. -
Holden goes to the Edmont hotel
Holden checked into the Edmont hotel. The man that showed him to his room was old and the hotel was crappy. He said that there were only perverts there and that he was probably the only normal one there. -
Holden calls Faith
After checking into the Edmont, Holden calls up Faith Cavendish. He got her number from a guy from princton who told him that she used to be a stripper. Holden tried to convince her to meet up with him, but she thought it was too late. -
Holden goes to Ernie's
Holden went to Ernie's because he could drink there. He also runs into his brother's ex girlfriend. She kept annoying him and he said that the plac was full of jerks, so he left. -
Holden pays for a prostitute
The doorman helped Holden get a prostitute for five dollars. When Sandy, the prostitute, came in the room Holden paid her but he only wanted to talk. Then she left and came back with the doorman who said Holden had to pay ten dollars intead of five. When Holden would not pay them the doorman punched him and took the money and left with Sandy. -
Holden goes on a date with Sally Hayes
Holden takes Sally Hayes to a movie. They kiss and Holden told her that he loved her. Later when they are ice skating Holden said that they could run away together. Sally did not like that idea and Holden yelled at her and then left. -
Holden meets two nuns
Holden goes to a sandwhich bar for breakfast and meets two nuns. After he talked with them for awhile he gave the nuns money and paid for their food. -
Holden talks to Phoebe
Holden snuck into his house to talk to Phoebe. He told her about his dream of being the catcher in the rye and gives her his hunting hat. He also told her about his plans about going west and she gives him money. -
Holden stays at Mr. Antolini's
Holden had no place to stay so he went to Mr. Antolini's, an old English teacher of his. Mr. Antolini talked about how school is good and then let Holden sleep on the couch. Then Holden woke up to Mr. Antolini sitting on the floor petting his head. Holden was startled and ran out of the house. -
Holden sees Pheobe again
Holden wrote a letter to Pheobe and gave the note to the school office to give to her. The note told Pheobe to meet Holden at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. When she came she had a suitcase and said that she was going to go with Holden west. Holden argues with her that she can not go with him, so she convinces him to stay. Then he takes her to the zoo so she can ride the carousel. -
Holden goes home
Holden was put in a mental hospital and is in therapy. He said that everyone kept asking how he felt about everything. He also said that he wishes that he had not told the story because it makes him miss everyone.
