CASE 001 ( Judicial Timeline)
CASE 001 is the 1ST case to be tried by the ECCC in Relation to the Khmer Rouge. KIANG Guek Eav aka ‘Duch’ becomes the first of the accused to be tried at the ECCC. He is accused of Crimes committed at the S-21 Prison (Detention Centre) of which he was head. S-21 is the detention center whereby of the 14,000 people that were detained, only 7 survived. Prisoners endured multiple kinds of torture and most of them were later executed or died in prison. -
Duch is detained
Duch is put into ECCC provisional detention after being transferred from the Military Court custody on the previous day. He is placed in provisional detention for a period of maximum one year by Order of Provisional Detention issued by the Co-Investigating Judges.
