Panama Canal treaty signed
The panamena treaty first declared the canal to be open for vessels of every nation and second it declared the US joint control with panama over the canal until December 31, 1999 -
The National Energy Act
Measures to improve the energy crisis were enacted such as higher taxes on gas guzzling cars, new non-petroleum utilities, degregulating natural gas prices, and funding to focus on research of alternative energy sources and nuclear energy. -
Camp David Accords
This was an agreement between Israel and Egypt facilitated by Carter, in which Israel would withdraw from the Sinai Peninsula (which they were in because of the 6 Day War) and Egypt would finally recognize Israel as an official nation. Additionally they would work on a peace treaty and work to resolve issues about the future of Palestinian.s -
Diplomatic Relations with China
The US granted (Peoples Republic of China) China full diplomatic status, normalizing relations with them and for the betterment of each nation. -
SALT II signed
The second Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty. A follow-up to the original SALT, which limited the amount of nuclear weapons the Soviet Union and the U.S. could have. However, SALT II never formally went into effect. -
Creation of the Department of Education
The Department of Education was created to oversee and improve the US education system as well as provide programs which would help minorities that struggle to get a good education.
