Tensions between France and Britain escalated after the French had rebelled against their king. July 14,1789 people of Paris attacked and seized the prison Bastille.The act of taking Bastille was one of the first acts of the French Revolution.The treat was the cause for protests. -
Alexander Hamilton was named Secratary
Mr.Hamilton was named the Treasure secretary by Washington. Hamilton wanted to pay off the debt from the American Revolution, by developing a national financial plan. He also created national banks to strengthen the U.S. economy. -

The Neutrality Proclamation
Neutrality stated that the U.S would not take sides with either of the European nations at war. Americans wanted to stay out of the French Revolution because of the violent attacks. -
Jays Treaty
Jays treaty settled disputes between the U.S and Great Britain in the early 1790's.The treaty spelled out that the British would pay for damages on the American Ships and to leave their forts in the NW frontier. -
Whiskey Rebellion
Whiskey was taxed to help pay down the Federal debts. This made the citizens angry. Protesters refused to pay the tax and started a group called the "Sons of Liberty". President orders the army to fight against the Sons of Liberty. By the time the army had reached their destination, most the of group had disbanded and left the area. -
Northwest Territory Conflicts
American's were settling in the NW territory. Native Americans were not happy about this and decided to go to war. The Native Americans defeated the U.S twice. In 1794, Americans attacked the Indian's and burned their crops. The Native Americans decided they wanted peace, so they came up with the treaty of Greenville which gave most of the Indians land to the U.S.In turn the U.S protected the Native Americans citizens. -
Pinckney's Treaty
The Spanish disputed the border between the U.S and Florida.The Port of New Orleans was closed by Spain to the U.S in 1795. The port closing hurt the U.S. economy. Ambassador Pinckney met with the Spanish Government to discuss a solution. -
Washington's Farewell Address
Washington Decided not to run for a 3rd term. Alexander Hamilton and James Madison helped Washington with his Farewell Address.The Address included benefits the benefits of uniting the states under one government,warned against political parties and pointed out the need for education.
