Seat Belts
Seat Belts were first invented by George Cayley in the early 19th centuary though Edward J. Claghorn was considered the first to put it in the use of cars to lessen the collision when crashing into something. The seat belt would automatically tighten and stop it from being pulled. The percentage of fatal death of car crashes went down by 2 folds because of the use of seat belts. -
Laminated Glass
Laminated Glass was installed into the safety features of cars, so that when the car crashes, the window glass would shatter but still be intact to the glass. This was invented by the French chemist Edouard Benedictus, inspired by a labatory accident. He had accidently dropped a glass flask that was coated in plastic cellulose nitrate, and didn't break. This is a car safety because if your car were not to have laminated glass and you got into a car crash, shards of glass would hit you -
Anti-lock Brake
The first Anti-lock brake was invented by a french automobile, Gabriel Voisin. It was first invented for aircrafts to help slow the plane from landing. Brakes in the cars helped slow down the car faster. Brakes have been saving many lives during the time because in most incidents, cars would have the time to brake before the Anti-lock Brake was invented. -
Sun Visors
The first sun visor was made by Kurtzke but was made into vehicles by Hathaway in 1938. Back then, many accidents occured because of sun rays inflicting into the drivers eyes causing him/her to crash. Sun visors were invented to block out the rays that would go into your eyes. -
Airbags
The first Automotive Air bag system was invented in 1968 by a patent named Walter Linderer. Though the air bags were invented at the time, it was realised that the air did not fill the bag fast enough. So the air bag was soon released in 1971, where general motors were used to test the airbags. In 1973, Oldsmobile Toronado was the first car to ever come out into selling with airbags. Air bags were used to allow yourself to hit soft bags instead of hard objects inside the car that could be fatal. -
