War of 1812
This is The War of 1812The War of 1812 was between Great Britain and the United States of America. There has been much delegation over who won the war, but the war itself made British North America fear another conflict with the United States.

Lord Durham's Report
Lord Durham came to British North America as Governor General and investigated the state of the colonies. In his report to the Queen of England he recommended that Upper and Lower Canada be combined to form one province.

Manifest Destiny
Manifest Destiny is a belief that came out in an issue of the United States Magazine and Democratic Review in 1845. The idea of Manifest Destiny was that the United States was destined to expand across the continent of North America.
This idea worried British North American colonies into thinking about protection and defence against American expansion.

American Civil War
The American Civil War was fought between the Northern and the Southern states. The Northern States wanted to abolish slavery and the Southern States wanted to keep slavery.

Charlottetown Conference
The 4 Atlantic colonies met to discuss the idea of a Maritime Union, thinking it would steal their heritage and money. Canadian representatives also came and impressed the Maritime representatives. There was an agreement made to create a federal union.

Québec Conference
Maritime delegates came to Québec City to meet with the others to discuss the terms of a federal union. John A. MacDonald directed and wrote most of the 72 Resolutions.
Decisions:
1. Parliamentary system of government
2. Ties to Britain would remain
3. Federal and provincial governments would exist

London Conference
John A. MacDonald and other delegates travelled to London, England to convince the British Government to agree to Canadian becoming its own nation.

British North American Act
British North America Act creates the Dominion of Canada Queen Victoria signed the British North American Act (BNA Act) which declared that the colonies were allowed to create their own country. The colonies that were included in Canada were New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Upper Canada, and Lower Canada.

Canada is Born
Canada officially becomes a country.
