Lord Durham’s Report Encourages the Assimilation of the Francophone Colonists
Who: Lord Durham
Lord Durham was sent to investigate the causes of twin rebellions in Upper and Lower Canada when he reported back he described the problems racially saying that he saw “two nations warring in the bosom of a single state”. Durham said the Francophones were without literature and history. This lead to Anglophones trying to assimilate the Francophones
