Confederation
Confederation is the day that Canada becomes a country. This was on July 1st in 1867, when the Constitutional Act is put into law creating the Dominion of Canada. The first four Provinces to join together in 1867 were Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The first Prime Minister of Canada was Sir John A. Macdonald and he was the leader of the Conservative Party. -

Louis Riel is executed
Louis Riel was the leader of the metis provisional government that is established in Manitoba. Canada sends an expedition to chart Manitoba so they can claim it but Louis Riel leads militia who stop the expedition. Canada sends in its military to end the conflict and is then able to accept Manitoba into its domain, making it a province. In 1885 Louis Riel returns to Canada to help a metis group at Batoche but is arrested and put on trial where he was guilty of treason and hung on Nov. 16th 1885. -

Treaty of Versailles
The Treaty of Versailles came after World War I and this was where Germany was forced to admit that they were responsible for WWI. Germany had to pay back war reparitions which were damages caused, and they also lost quite a bit of their pre-war territory. The Germans were humiliated by this peace treaty and were dissatisfied with the new boundaries. -
World War II starts
World War II was from 1939-1945. Its cost was 1.15 Trillion dollars along with 17 million lives. Hitler was the main cause of this war beginning when he sent his troops into Rhineland against the Treaty of Versailles. He then took Austria and Western Czech. Britain and France let him to avoid another war and made him promise not to take more. 6 months later Hitler to the rest of Czech and invadeed Poland. Britain and France declared war on Germany and a week later so did Canada. -
D-Day
D-Day was the liberation of Europe. It was a series of five assaults on 5 beaches in Normandy France, Canada took Juno Beach. The goal was to penetrate the 'Atlantic Wall'. -
