Slavery has been illegal in the British North America (BNA) since 1833. About 30,000 slaves escaped to Canada West and Nova Scotia. This was a factor for diversity in Canada. -
The Great Migration
The great immigration was a mass of people from Europe between the 1830's-1840's coming to what is now called Canada. European people emigrated from Europe because of poverty and shortage on food.this was another factor on Canada's diversity. -

In 1857 Queen Victoria made Ottawa the permanent capital of Canada, formerly the city was called Bytown. -
The Talk About Confederation Begins
during the summer of 1864 four atlantic leaders of the BNA colonies (John A. Macdonald, George-Etienne Cartier, George Brown, and Etienne-Paschal Tache) wanted to explore the idea of forming a maritime union. -

Queen Victoria opened a new parliament building in Ottawa, June 6th of 1866. -
Naming Of Canada
Upon Confederation in 1867, the name Canada was officially adopted for the new Dominion, which was commonly referred to as the Dominion of Canada until after World War II. -
New Brunswick
, 1867 New Brunswick joins Confederation. People thought that Confederation would help the economy by providing a larger market for their goods, also link to the other colonies through the Intercolonial Railway. -

July 15th, 1870 Manitoba and Northwest Territories Join Confederation. -
British Colombia Joins
British Columbia decided to join Canada because they were promised that Canada will help build the railway within 2 years and finished within 10 years. -
Prince Edward Island
October 8th, 1873 Prince Edward Island Joined Confederation. They didn't want to join at first because of the little amount of seats they had in the house of commons and not enough benefits. But they later on got a offer the islanders could not refuse. -
Yukon Territory
July 13th, 1898 Yukon Territory Joins Confederation -
Alberta and Saskatchewan
September 1st, 1905 Alberta and Saskatchewan Join Confederation.Alberta didn't "join" the confederation, rather it was created. Alberta was never a country, nor did it exist before September 1, 1905. saskatchewan/ "Alberta" joined the Confederation to further their economic ability, gain money, and access to land. -
Newfoundland
March 31st, 1949 Newfoundland Joins Confederation.They joined to be releived of their financial debt. -
Nunavut
October 8th, 1999 Nunavut entered Confederation.
