    -Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser gained control of the Suez Canal, which was run by the French and British.
    -The Soviet Union, threatened to shower the west with nuclear weapons if the British and French didn't withdraw.
    -Pearson proposed a solution to the United Nations which called for the British and French to withdraw but would allow for a UN force to remain in the area
    -Pearson won a nobel prize for his efforts and was seen as a hero

    -This sparked a 'space race' between the Soviets and the United States.
    -The launch of the Sputnik motivated the United States to work harder to discover information about our world.

    -The Avro Arrow was a techinically advanced fighter jet developed by A.V Roe of Canada, and was designed to carry air-to-air-nuclear-tipped missiles to destroy Soviet bomb attacks over the North.
    -The costs to make the fighter jet skyrocketed and the cancellation of the Avro Arrow was put to a vote
    -The Avro Arrow was put to an end following the vote, leaving 14,000 Canadians jobless.

    -The Americans then developed KBMS
    -The soviets retaliated by developing long ranged missiles that could hit any city in North America.
    -Khrushchev, leader of the Soviet Union at the time, then proposed the idea of placing the missiles in Cuba.
    -The United States decided to create a blockade surrounding the country of Cuba to protect North America.
    -Eventually the Soviets withdrew their missiles from Cuba

    -Some men in the country did not agree with the war going on in Vietnam, and did not want to participate in the fighting going on in Vietnam.
    -These men became Draft Dodgers, and would travel to Canada to avoid going to war.

    -Soviet teams had totally dominated international hockey for the previous 10 years, but this was the first time they played the best Canadian professionals.
    -In the year of 1972 a series between the top Russian hockey team, and the top Canadian hockey team began
    -In the final game Paul Henderson scored the winning goal, leaving Canada winning the series

    -After a couple of months the Soviet Union had collapsed and became 15 seperate countries which was now named the Commonwealth of Independent Republics.
