World War II ends
The Second World War finished with the formal surrender of Japan after the explotion of the two atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Canada participated enormously during WWII. First being the Arsenal of Democracy, selling military equipment to the Allie. Then Canadian soldiers fought in different battles and women and men helped diversely in the home front. -
The United Nations is created
The United Nations was created after WWI to stop wars between countries and provide worldwide peace. It officially came into existence when China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and another 46 signatories approved the United Nations Charter.
Canada has been a member of the UN since the beginning of its formation and has served for 12 years on the security council and another peacemaking operations. -
Creation of NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was designed for mutual defense in response to an attack. The members decided that an attack on one member would be considered an attack against them all.
Canada was one of the main initiators of the alliance. The principal Canadian involvement to the North Atlantic Treaty was Article 2 which committed members to maintain a "free" political system and to promote economic cooperation. -
Communist take control of China
After the Chinise Civil War the People's Liberation Army was finally victorious and Mao Zedong announced the formation of the Republic of China.
Unlike countries like U.S.A, Canada accepted the communist government as the official government of China. -

The Korean War
The Korean war was a conflict between South Korea and North Korea. When North Korea invaded South Korea the UN came to defend the South. At the end of the war both South and North Korea agreed to an armistice and Korea styaed divided.
Thousands of Canadian soldiers served UN forces during the war and showed support to the UN and its goals. -
Creation of the WARSAW Pact
It was a mutual defense agreement involving eight communist states of Eastern Europe during the Cold War.
Canada was a member of the NATO, hence it was one of the WARSAW Pact oppositions -

Vietnam War
It was a military conflict between the Communist government in the North and the anti-Communist and partially democratic government in the South. After 19 years the last of the Americans supporting South Vietnam left the country and the communists took control of all Vietnam.Thousands of Americans that were against the war came to Canada evading the military draft. -
Lester Pearson diffuses the Suez Crisis
The Suez Crisis was a political and military disagreement between Egypt on one side and Britain, France and Israel on the other.
The Canadian Leaster Pearson difused the Crisis through the UN creating the United Nations Emrgency Force or UN Peackeeping Forces. -
Berlin Wall is built
It was a wall built by the German Democratic that separate the German Federal Republic from the German Democratic Republic. It was mainly constructed to stop East Germans from escaping to the West. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
It was a conflict between the Soviet Union and Cuba on one side and the United States on the other. U.S.A spotted Soviet missiles in Cuba, so that U.S.A set up a naval blockade. This could lead a nuclear war. The Soviet ships turn back but the Crisis wasn't over until Americans promise not to invade Cuba in return of the removal of the misiles.
The Prime Minister put Canadian forces on alert of the attack at the time the crisis was almost over, causing anger and resentment in U.S.A. -

USSR invades Afghanistan
In the Soviet war in Afghanistan, the Soviet Union supported Democratic Republic of Afghanistan ( pro-communist government) against the Afghan Mujahideen guerrilla.
Canada was a belligerent with the Mujahideen guerrilla. -
Berlin Wall is torn down
Communism was decaying and Captialism gained power. In 1989 Communism was gone and the Berlin Wall was torn down, forming a single Germany.
