Things Break Loose
This year is very sad because Sihanouk dad passes. The bright side is that Sihanouk becomes head of state. Sihanouk decides to break off relations with the US and has North Vietnamese set up bases so it's against US-backed government. The US then starts secret bombing campaign against North Vietnamese -
Protectorate of France
This year was when Cambodia officially became a protectorate of France, which it ends up lasting for 90 years. They people were very upset and didn't like how things were. -
Becoming King
Prince Norodom Sihanouk becomes the king of Cambodia, which this ends up leading to Cambodia being in World War ll because the King made poor choices. -
Re-Imposing Protectorate
France once again decides to re-impose, which a law gets made that Cambodia has to permit political parties. Communist get upset so they start an armed campaign against the French. -
Independence
Cambodia finally got there Independence from France! Cambodia becomes Kingdom of Cambodia which is under the King. King Sihanouk becomes the Prime Minister and his father becomes the King. -
Year Zero
The Prime Minister sends the army to start fighting North Vietnamese. Sihanouk forms a group that is a guerrilla movement. Over these years the Cambodian's army loses the territory to North Vietnamese and also Khmer Rouge. The country gets renamed and becomes Kampuchea. City dwellers get forced to move and become agriculture workers. Money becomes a problem and regions get banned. Middle classes get hurt. They starve and die. Khi is sign to become head of state. A fight breaks out with Vietnam. -
Things Become As They Were
The Revolutionary Party wins parliamentary elections! The community doesn't want to know about the new government. The government-in-exile stays in the United Nations. Hun Sen becomes the prime minster, also Cambodia is plagued by a warfare. A lot become refugees. Hun Sen try to a investment by abandoning socialism. The country become State of Cambodia and buddhism is the state religion. -
Uneasy Peace
An agreement get signed with Paris which is a peace agreement. UN frequently shares power with the representatives. Once again Sihanouk becomes head of state. The Funcinpec party wins the most seats and Hun Sen's People Party. Hun Sen also becomes deputy prime minster. The monarchy gets restored and Sihanouk becomes king again! The Country gets renamed to Kingdom of Cambodia. The government that is in exile lost a place in the UN. A lot of people in the Khmer Rouge surrender, a new party begins. -
Uneasy Peace Pt. 2
Hun Sen mounts a coup against Prince Ranariddh and he gets replaced by Ung Huot. Khmer Rouge put Pol Pot on a trial and he got sentenced to prison for life. The Prince was guilty for arms smuggling but he gets forgiven by the king. The Pol Pot dies from hiding out. Hun Sen wins the elections he gets harassed for winning. The Prince gets sent to be the president of the National Assembly. -
Guilty Of an Attack
The US Cambodian Freedom Fighters are guilty of attacking Phnom Penh. This group still continue's their campaign so they can get Hun Sen overthrown. The bridge over the Mekong River opens and is going east and west of Cambodia. -
An Upset
An upset happens with Thailand because comments were made to a TV star that something got stolen from Thailand. People got very mad and starting attacking the Thai embassy. The Cambodian People's part wins elections but doesn't make the govern secure. -
Getting Re-Elected
Nothing majorly happens until Hun Sen gets re-elected. King Sihanouk kingdom is entered into world trade. His son becomes succeeded. -
Things Go South
Sam Rainsy gets abroad with the idea of parliament is striped from prosecution, which makes hime open to defamation charges. Rouge gets the green light from the UN to stop debating on funding. Rainy gets sentenced to prison for 18 months for defaming Hun Sen. -
Deaths and Returning Home
Rainsy gets pardon and is allowed to go home. The parliament votes on getting rid of terms of prison for defamation. One of the top leaders of Rouge regime dies unexpectedly at the age of 80. At the Funcinpec Party a partner drops Prince Nomodom as a leader. -
Khmer Rouge Trail
Ranariddh gets sent to prison for 18 months because he was selling the Funcinpec's Party headquarters, which he says he never did. UN tribunals start to ask suspects about Rouge killing hundreds of people. Nuon Chea gets arrested which he is a senior member of Khmer Rouge. He gets charged with crimes against humanity. -
Deaths & Attacks
The CFF leader is found guilty of masterminding the attack in Phnom Penh. The CPP of Hun Sen claims their victory of parliamentary elections. Both Cambodia and Thailand move to lands where no one is. Two soldiers of Cambodia die when exchanging fire with the Thai troops in an area where it's not big. The Thai soldiers shortly die soon too cause of their wounds. -
A New Deal with Thailand
The main leader the Khmer Rouge goes on a trial for murdering and doing torture to tons of people. The parliament gets rid of Sam Rainsy for getting charged with a crime but he doesn't show up to court which makes the trails worse. Cambodia refuses to give Thailand their old prime minster so they can give him a job where he can be an economic advisor. -
Found Guilty
Duch gets found guilty of crimes that are against humanity and he goes to prison for 35 years total. Shinawatra gets resigned to the government of Cambodia. Rainsy goes to prison for ten years total, he gets found guilty of manipulating a map, which suggests that Cambodia loses land from Vietnam. -
Rising Tension
Cambodia charges Thai citizens for spying and they ended up getting arrested but the ended up escaping and crossed the border. Forces start to charge with fire so they can get them back in custody. Hun Sen ends up getting the peacekeepers involved. This makes tensions to rise. The three senior of Khmer Rouge get charged with killing hundreds of people and crimes against humanity. Since everything is happening Cambodia and Thailand come to agreement on to bring troops from disputed areas. -
More Trails
Duch loses conviction on the UN and gets sentenced to life in prison. Another judge ends up quitting tribunal and Bunleng investigates past members of Khmer Rouge. Chut Wutty is shot and dies on the spot, which is with police going through a frost region that is threatened. The government gets rid of land and companies in the middle of no where. Also illegal logging gets rid of. The King dies of heart attack. -
Elections
150,000 or more workers go back home from neighboring Thailand because there was rumors going around that the new military would crack down on illegal immigrants. The CNRP comes to the year long of boycott and agrees with the Prime Minster to break the deadlock over the election. Two seniors of Khmer Rouge go to prison for life because they played a role in terror that made the country go away. Nuon Chea and Khieu Sampan were the first to go to prison. -
Crimes & Power
Hun Sen the prime minster marks the year for being in power for 30 years straight. Two former Khmer Rouge go to prison because they get charged with crimes against humanity. -
Sentenced to Prison & More Elections
Hun Sen commender gets shot died at the Capitol. Hun Sen declares fire on the members of the elections. The CNRP resumes the month long boycott over the threats of the alleged party. The UN stops the life sentencing on Khmer Rouge but the crimes against humanity still had to go through. Rainsy has to go to prison for five years because a document got uploaded to FaceBook that says forgery. He got found guilty about the post. -
Resigned Again
Rainsy gets resigned as head of the CNPR. He got self exile since the beginning of 2005. If you run away from the parliament you go to prison. Rainsy was found guilty for defamation. -
Funeral & Trails
Tons of peoples went to the cremation for the former king. The former minster of Khmer Rouge dies when waiting for the trail of killing tons of people, which only leaves two more of them left for the trail and they get arrested. A parliament gets passed up saying that's it's extremely illegal for the Khmer Rouge to commit a crime. Rainsy comes back from being outside of the country. Hun Sen gets the victory he wanted for the parliament.
