Y2K Fiasco
The Y2K fiasco was caused by a computer bug that followed the beginning of the year 2000 called the millennium bug. The 19 in 1900s was left out of computer programming to save data space so when it became January 1, 2000 people thought that the computers would think it was January 1, 1900. Computer calculations that depended on the date were majorly disrupted and it caused problems for banks, power plants, and transportation systems. -
Hanging Chad Incident In Florida
A chad is a tiny bit of paper that is punched from a ballot using a punch-type mechanical voting machine. when there is a hanging chad, that vote may not be counted correctly. Chad was made infamous in the highly contentious 2000 United States presidential election where many of Florida votes used automatic punched card ballots the were not counted correctly so they had to hire people to count them all by hand. -
Bush v. Gore
The election of 2000 was being led by Al Gore but was won by Bush when during the hanging chad incident Al Gore folded. -

George W. Bush and Al Gore were the nominees, Bush received more of the electoral vote, Gore received more of the popular vote. Al Gore would have won if it weren't for the hanging chad incident. -
Timothy McVeigh put to death
Timothy McVeigh was put to death for killing 168 people when he bombed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The Oklahoma City bombing was at the time the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history. McVeigh found himself on death row after parking a rental truck packed with 4,800-pounds of explosives just outside the building, which also housed a daycare center, in which 19 children were killed. -
9/11 Attacks
the extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes in the US. The first two hit the twin towers. The another hit the Pentagon. The fourth crashed in a field in Pensylvania. this triggered the developement of anti-terrorist attempts and programs. -
Enron Scandal (Houston, Texas)
The energy company filed for bankruptcy causing the loss of thousands of jobs in Houston Texas. They were one of the most powerful companies and fell almost overnight because it was discovered that they had fake holdings and off-book accounts. After the resecion of the company investers and creitors were at a great loss. -
Patriot Act Passed
the Patriot act is formally called “Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001”. This was in response to the 9/11 attack to prevent and fight terrorism. This includes federal funds to help victims of terrorism. -
The hunt for Osama Bin Laden
Osama was the former leader of al-Qaeda, he went into hiding shortly after the War in Afghanistan began to avoid being captured for his role on 9/11. The U.S. military chose to rely on the services of local Afghan proxies of uncertain loyalty and competence—a blunder that allowed many members of al-Qaeda, including Osama bin Laden himself, to slip away. Eventually Osama was captured and killed may of 2011 -
The War in Iraq begins
President Bush and his advisors built much of their case for war on the idea that Iraq, under dictator Saddam Hussein, possessed or was in the process of building weapons of mass destruction. Hostilities began after the U.S.-imposed deadline for Saddam Hussein to leave Iraq or face war passed. The first targets, were hit with Tomahawk cruise missiles from U.S. fighter-bombers and warships stationed in the Persian Gulf. -
Kerry/Bush Campaign and Election
Republican party candidate and incumbent George W. Bush ran against the Democratic party candidate John Kerry. Bush finished with 50.7 percent of the vote and 286 electoral votes, while Kerry captured 48.3 percent and 251 electoral votes. The primary goal for Mr. Bush was to emphasize another major new issue arising from the events of 9/11—the issue of the war on terrorism. Bush sought to convince the public that he possessed the qualities necessary to fight the war on terrorism. -
SE Asian Tsunami
With a magnitude of 9.3, the quake was the most powerful of the last 40 years and the second largest earthquake in recorded history. It set off a deadly tsunami that, in the final estimate, killed an estimated 230,000 people and wreaked untold devastation on a wide swath of coastline from Somalia on the east African coast to Sumatra in Southeast Asia.Within 30 minutes, the tsunami had hit Sumatra and, within two hours, it had battered the coasts of Thailand, Sri Lanka, and southern India. -

One of the most deadly tropical storms in history and the most costly. Completely devastated the city of New Orleans. This was a category 3 storm. The FEMA was late to respond to the storm which added to the damages. -

A catagory 5 hurricane, Hurricane Rita, was foreseen and there was a masss exodus out ofthe north and west ,This led to the wort gridlock in history. That didn't break up for over 24 hours. -
Execution of Saddam Hussein
Former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein was hanged in the predawn hours of Saturday for crimes against humanity in the mass murder of Shiite men and boys in the 1980s, sent to the gallows by a government backed by the United States and led by Shiite Muslims. Saddam was escorted from his U.S. military prison cell and handed over to Iraqi officials. He was executed on the day Sunni Muslims, of which he was one, were to begin celebrating the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha. -

The 47-year-old Democrat garnered 365 electoral votes and nearly 53 percent of the popular vote. -

Full name is The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act also known as Obama care. It improved health care for those of low and no income. Increased spending on medicare and medicade.
