Bruno is Born
Peter Gene Hernandez was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 8th. By the time he was only two years old, he had aquired the nickname Bruno. The Grammy winning and chart topping young man grew up with music all around him. His father played percussion and his mother was a singer. At the age of four, little Bruno became the youngest ever Elvis impersonator. -
Nothin' On You is released
One of the things that makes Mars unique, is that he is a fantastic songwriter. Bruno Mars wrote songs for Flo Rida, Ce-Lo Green, Adam Lavine, and many more. However, when he wrote a song for Atlantic Records rapper B.O.B. Bruno had to be featured on the powerful chorus. The song shot straight to the top of the charts and people were raving about the newcomer whose vocals were featured on that legendary chorus. That was when Bruno Mars really got his start as an individual artist. -
Doo-Wops & Hooligans
Early October, after the release of "Nothin On You" and the success that it brought Mars, he released his own album. The versitile artist wrote hit after hit with songs ranging from pop genre, to RnB, reggae, and rock songs. His album was a huge success, it granted him the No. 3 spot for the Billboard best album. His song "Just The Way You Are" was an instant hit, shooting right to the top of the charts. His songs "Grenade" and "Lazy Song" also followed closely behind, both cracking the top ten. -
Unorthodox Jukebox
His second album was met with just as much enthusiasm with the first. The lead single "Locked Out of Heaven" topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 6 consecutive weeks. It was not the only song to hit the No. 1 spot on that list as it was later followed by "When I Was Your Man". The album won Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2013 Grammys. The second Grammy victory after "Just The Way You Are" won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. -
Bruno Performs at the superbowl
Late in 2013 the news broke that Bruno Mars was to perform at the Super Bowl. He talked about it with Ellen Degeneres after it happened and when asked if he had any doubts he replied, "Well how do you say no?" Of course with this two-album rookie, there was not 100% consensus on the idea. There were people who doubted, who thought he wasn't ready. But he proved them all wrong with the performance that people will talk about for a long time. -
The Next Chapter
In an interview with Ellen Degeneres about the new hit "Uptown Funk", Bruno announced he was going to take a break to begin work on the next album. His hit with Mark Ronson has placed him atop the Billboard Hot 100 for over 10 consecutive weeks. Now he says it's time to begin writing his next album. He would not give an estimate on how long it would be because he wants it to be "just as good, if not better" than his last two.
