    In 1981, Bruce left his first band Samson, to replace Paul Di'Anno as the lead singer of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden. His first album with the band, The Number of the Beast, was also the band's breakthrough album. However, he was not able to legally be credited on any of the albums songs because of contractual issues with his first band.

    In 1993, Bruce left Iron Maiden because of some stylistic disagreements within the band. In addition to recording some solo albums, he decided to pursue a career in aviation, something he had been interested in for most of his life. He was replaced by singer Blaze Bayley, who recorded what fans consider to be the two worst Iron Maiden albums.

    After six years away, Bruce and his old band put aside their differences and have been together ever since. Also, in several of the band's tours since his return, Bruce has been able to combine his love of rock AND aviation. He acquired a 747, named "Ed Force One" after the band's mascot Eddie, and used it to fly the band, crew, and equipment around on a few of their world tours.

    In 2015, Bruce was diagnosed with cancer after doctor's discovered a tumor on the back of his tongue. Though this could have been a career-ending affliction, after seven weeks of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, Bruce was declared cancer-free and now, at 60 years old, continues to tour with Iron Maiden, with his distinctive voice as great as it ever was.
