In 1492 a sailor named Christopher Columbus sailed from Spain and explored islands in the Caribbean Sea. If this never happened we probably wouldn't have any other European explorers and America wouldn't exist. -

In 1754 Britain fought the French and their Native American allies over land in North America. The colonists helped lead the
British to victory 9 years later. If this never happened we wouldn't
be a country with the freedoms that we have now. -
The Treaty of Paris is Signed
In 1783 the Treaty of Paris was signed and that made American independence official. If this never happened we wouldn't have independence. -
Whitney Invents the Cotton Gin
In 1793 Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin. This made cotton easier to process after it was picked. If this was never invented we wouldn't have as much clothes as we do now. -
France Offered Land for 15 MILLION Dollars
In 1803 France offered land from between the Mississippi River and the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains all the way to the United States for only 15 MILLION dolloars. If this never heppened the United States wouldn't have the size it does now. -
Jackson Elected President
In 1828 Andrew Jackson was elected president and started taking interest in poor farmers, laborers, and settlers who wanted land. If this event never took place then the Indian Removal Act would've never happened. -
Congress Passed the Indian Removal Act
In 1830 president Andrew Jackson persuaded congress to pass the Indian Removal Act. This required for all Native Americans in the area to leave their homelands. If this event never occured then the Trail of Tears never would've occured. -
Texas Became a Part of the United States
In 1845 Texas officially became a part of the United States. One year later the United States went into war with Mexico and was victorious. If this event never happened then we wouldn't have much of the southwest region we have now. -
Lincoln Elected President
In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected as our 16th president and ended slavery. This caused many Southerners to withdraw from the United States and form the Confederacy. If this never happened then we wuld probably still be in slavery. -
The Civil War Between The Union and The Confederacy Erupted
In 1861 the Civil War erupted between the Union and the Confederacy. The civil war lasted four years and the Union had former slaves help them fight. Four years later, the Confederacy gave up and surrendered. If this never happened then we would never have rebuilt the nation.
