The Introduction
This timeline is meant to inform all about the origins of boy scouts worldwide. The BBS paved the way for all other Boy Scouts, and is this timeline should give you a glimpse in to the birth. -
The Motivation
Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell was an English war hero; idolized for his efforts in the battle of Mafeking in the South African War. While out on the frontier he sees that many many have difficulty with simple tasks that men in the wild should already know. -
The Book
After noticing that many young men lack basic survival skills, Baden-Powell writes "Scouting for Boys". A field guide on how to survive on the frontier. -
The Commencement
When Baden-Powell returned from war he saw that the book had cauht on with young boys. He decided to take close to 20 young men out into the woods to teach them firsthand the methods he introduced in his book. -
The Officiation
Sir Francis Vane becomes the first London Commissioner of the BBS (Baden-Powell Boy Scouts). Now that they had a Powerful Military General at the helm of the organization, they gained recognition throughout the competition. -
The Flight
Having witnessed the success of the BBS in teaching young men valuable survival skills, a new branch of scouts arises. The Air Scouts. -
The Musicians
After music become a common practice, the BBS holds its first National Scouts Band Competition. -
The Peak
England records it's highest number of boy scouts at 608,610. -
The Expansion
"Scouting for Boys" spreads across the seven seas. Chile is first country to have a Boys Scouts Association officially recognized by Baden-Powell. -
The Anniversary
100 years of the establishment of the BBS is celebrated. -
The Present
Today the BBS has over 520,000 members.
