Around 700 hundred British troops are shipped from Ireland to Boston to enforce new tax laws. -

Moments before the Boston Massacre
The Twenty-Ninth Regiment came to the relief of the Eighth Regiment on duty at a customs house. The soldiers, led by Captain Thomas Preston, were met by a large and taunting crowd of civilians who were unable to be calmed. -
The Trial
Captain Thomas Preston was tried 7 months after the shooting. He was defended by John Adams and Robert Auchmuty and assisted by Josiah Quincy Jr. -
The soldiers court case
The soldier's case was not tried until 8 months after the shooting to let emotions of the common people to cool down. -
The verdict
Captain Thomas Preston was acquitted of all charges. -
Soldiers verdict
- British soldiers were tried for murder, 6 were acquitted because the jury saw it as self defense, the other two were charged with murder because of the overwhelming proof that they shot into the crowed.
