Clarence H. won his first Marathon
Clarence H. DeMar of Melrose, Massachusetts, won his first Boston Marathon race of seven. He won his other 6 medals between 1922 and 1930. DeMar was 41 years old when he won his final title in 1930. -
World War 1 affecting the Marathon
Due to World War 1, the traditional Patriots day underwent a change. A 10-man military relay race was held on the course, and the team from Camp Devens in Ayer, Massachusetts, bested the field in 2:24:53. -

The marathon was always held on Patriots day. In 1969 it was officially qualified as a holiday on the third Monday in April. -
