Premise
My book I read was "Born at Midnight" by C.C. Hunter. It takes place in central Texas and a camp in southern Texas. I decided to read this book because my friend and I wanted to start a book club of two and it looked interesting. Born at Midnight is not the only book in the series there are 5 others. The main characters are Kylie Galen, Della, Miranda, Derek, Lucas, Holiday, and Burnett. This book is about a girl who is supposed to get sent to a summer camp for troubled teens, but instead... -
Premise
but ends up going to a camp for supernaturals instead. When she first arrives she feels anything everything but comfortable. However, as Kylie stays longer at this camp, she realizes that is exactly where she should be. -
Event 1: Kylie gets caught
It has been a rough couple of months for Kylie Galen. Her parents get divorced, her boyfriend dumped her, and her grandma died. One Friday night, she decides to go to a party with her best friend. Later on the party gets busted for drugs and alcohol and everyone is sent to jail. Thinking: This reminds me of the time I got caught FaceTiming my friend at eleven o'clock at night. -
Event 2: Going to camp
After Kylies mom picks her up from the police station, she is scolded for acting up. Mrs. Galen proceeds to tell her daughter that even though life is rough that is no reason to act out. Kylies punishment for her recklace behavior, is going to a diciplinary camp for the summer. Thinking: This reminds me of when I was sent to a two-day ten hour basketball camp and I was very upset about it, but I had to go anyways. -
Event 3: Road trip cont.
a girl with very pale skin and pointy teeth, and also a very cute brunette boy. Thinking: This reminds me of when I went to a new school and I felt very awkward because I was the new girl. -
Event 3: Road trip
Kylie wakes up on June 5, realizing that today is camp day. When Kylie boards the she puts in her ear buds and falls asleep. Later on, Kylie wakes up to a strange noise of what she thinks is a frog croaking. To her surprise there was in fact a frog on the bus who's owner was strange girl with multi- colored hair. Suddenly, being more aware of her surroundings, Kylie notices a guy with color changing eyes, and a girl in all black with really pale skin. Tired and confused Kylie falls asleep. -
Event 4: Roomies
When camp initiation Kylie is a little confused as to what is going on, it is not until she sees her two roomates, Miranda and Della, that she gets the picture. Kylie sees Della taking a shot of blood, and Miranda making a toad disappear and reappear. For the entire night, Kylie says in her room, in the cabin and does not speak to anybody. Waking up to a slimy feeling on her face, Kylie finds Miranda's frog on her! Thinking: This reminds me of when my brother put a fake snake on my face. -

The next morning, Kylie goes out to the quad for the morning gathering where she will hear the camp director, Holiday, speak. Holiday begins to explain that everyday you will get to know a different one of your camp mates, but for the first day u get to know your roommates. A little while later Kylie begins to walk with her roomates and they begin to tell each other their life stories. Suddenly a vampire appears in front of them that is not from this camp. Della proceeds to tell the other girls -
Event 6: Discovering powers?
For a few nights Kylie was been seeing ghosts in her dreams and also in real life. The next morning she goes to Holidays office and Holiday tells that she might be a supernatural. This gives Kylie a heart attack because she has been scared of supernaturals her life. Thinking: This reminds me of a time when the doctor told me that I couldn't pitch for a month because my arm was all messed up. -

A few days into camp, Kylie has been to a few bonfires with her camp mates and she sees a guy that she think she knows (He is a werewolf). When she was younger she remembers a peculiar boy that lived next door. He would always beat up the kids that picked on her when she walked home. One day at the age of 9 Kylie got a cat. Whenever this boy would come around the cat would get scared. A few months later her cat died and her parents told her it got ran over. When in reality the boy ate the cat. -
Event 8: Blood Brothers attack
Lately at the camp, there has been suspicious activity, such as intruders of different supernaturals. One night, Kylie, Della, and Miranda went to go investigate. They heard rustling in the trees and the gang of blood brothers came and attacked them. Since Kylie doesn't have powers, yet, she used the power of her ghosts and her body. Later on, Holiday and Derek the werewolf came in the fight and scared off the blood brothers. This reminds me of the time that I went to a park at night with... -

Event 9: Visiting Day
Kylie has not spoken to either of her parents since she got dropped off at camp. She is furious at both of them for dropping her off at camp and getting divorced. For two days the camp holds a visiting day for all of the parents. Since Kylie might have powers she is scared for her mother and her father to find out. Shockingly when her mother arrives she tells Kylie that before she married her father now, she was married to someone else. After getting over that overwhelming shock Kylie's mom... -

tells her that her earlier husband had powers and that that was her real dad. Thinking: This reminds me of when my parents found out I was a good singer and put me in many different vocal camps. -
Event 10: Decision Day
The night before Kylie's mom leaves she asks Kylie of she wants to stay at camp. Since the camp is turning into a boarding school Kylie decides she wants to stay. One reason is because Kylie wants to discover what she is, and also she has made two new best friends and has fallen in love with Derek the werewolf. Thinking: This reminds me of the time when my parents asked me if I wanted to continue in softball and I said yes, because I had fallen in love with it. -
Overview
After reading this book I decided to read the second one called "Awake at Dawn" and it was amazing. I am now going to continue reading the series. I recommend this book because it has many different genres inside. It is funny, romantic, and very syfy-ish. If there was a movie I would watch it because it would include all of my favorite things. Overall, it was a good book with good lessons such as life lessons, like finding out who you are.
