The invention of the weight training barbell, this allows bodybuilders to use a larger selection of exercises. Movements such as the dead-lift. This creation is known for being one of the most major milestones in bodybuilding. -
1928
In modern day 2023, competitions such as the Mr.Olympia is considered the greatest show. But everything had a beginning, for contest it was the Mr.America. This competition was held in York, Pennsylvania. -
1940s
What makes a big part of bodybuilding? The man's physique, without that people wouldn't be interested. Steve Reeves, became a popular model for serious physical culture adherents. -
1950s
Along with the Mr.America, there were many great contests. The first professional bodybuilding competition, the Mr.Universe contest took place in the United Kingdom. -
1960s
After nearly two centuries, the first organized bodybuilding culture emerged in the United States. This launched the title "The Golden Age Of Bodybuilding" -
1970s
The makeup of competitive bodybuilding changes significantly with the arrival of Arnold Schwarzenegger. As well as other body builders like Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler. -
1980s
As technology increases so does knowledge, the area of nutrition, diet and supplements change from the decade previously. -
1990s
Professional bodybuilding grows, events like the Mr.Olympia National Physique Commitee are televised. -
2000s
Through the use of computer technology, visuals are made and featured on bodybuilding websites. Using this idea helps spread awareness for the sport. -
2013
With technological advances like online live streaming, this helps for the sport of bodybuilding to become more popular and accessible. This makes the audience being able to partake much more wider. -
2014
The International Federation of Bodybuilding anf Fitness (IFBB) launches the World Beauty Fitness and Fashion (WBFF), an open-level bodybuilding and fitness event. -
2019
The IFBB Pro League organizes the first global bodybuilding and fitness team championships, giving the opportunity to athletes to compete and win titles. -
2020
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, bodybuilding gains more popularity as a physical activity due to the fact it can be done in a socially-distanced and isolated way.
