Britain and the Axis forces had been fighting for the control of Norther Africa. Both really wanted to control Egypt. With the control of Egypt came the control of the Suez Canal which was the shortest sea route to Asia and the Middle Eastern oil fields. -

Troops clash!
after Dwight Eisenhower and his troops landed in northern Afric in 1942, they clashed with Rommel's army in Tunisia in 1943. The Americans fell at first but regrouped and continued their attack. The Allies one the attack. -
Invade Italy
Invasion of Italy happened on the island of Silcily. Allied and German troops engaged in a long month of bitter fighting. Once the Allies finally forced the Germans out, they invaded Italy. -
Mussolini overthrown
Once the Allies invaded Italy, the Italians had already turned on Mussolini. He was imprisoned by the officials but some how escaped. The new Italian government surrendered to the Allies.
