Pesse Canoe
The Pesse Canoe is considered to be the first boat in the world, created during the early Mesolithic period. It was created between 8040 BC and 7150 BC. It was discovered near the Netherlands, in 1955. It was made from a pine tree that was hollowed out, and then was dugout by hand using flint and stone tools. It is an earlier form of the dugout canoe, which is a hollowed tree trunk, that has been dugout. -

Early Egyptian boats
One of the Earliest types of boats were created in Egypt. They were made from Papyrus reeds tied tightly together. They used oars to move the boat as well as sails. It was created during the 4th millennium (or, 4000 to 3001 BC.) They were somewhere around 300 feet, and were used to carry obelisks along the Nile. -
1500 BCE
Minoan
In around 1500 BC, Minoan Ships were created. They were long ships that were made out of wood. They used sails and a lot of oars to move the ship across far distances to different ports and harbors. -

Chinese Junk ships
In 1100 AD, Chinese Junk ships were created. They were used for trading, fighting, and even as houseboats. They did not have a square rig sails. -

Three and Four Mast Ships
In 1450 AD three and four mast ships were created, as battleships, and trade vessels to carry cargo over long distances. -
Clipper Ships
In the 1800s the clipper ship was invented. The first Clipper ship that was created was Ann McKim. They were mainly used for high value cargo -
Steam powered ships
In the 1880s Steam powered boats were created. It was created by Robert Fulton. He was an American Inventor. -
Coal ships
In 1910 ships that ran off of coal were created. They were used for a very brief period of time. -
The titanic sunk
In 1912 the titanic sunk. It was created on May 31, 1911. It weighed 52,310 lbs. -
Oil ships
In 1925 Ships switched to oil. They were used in WWII. -
Nuclear powered ships
In 1989 Nuclear powered ships were created. -
Speedboats
Speedboats became very popular in the 2000s -
Present day
Speed boats, cruise liners, sailboats, and other ships are all used today. There are aircraft carriers, submarines, and more are used in the US Navy.
