The parents in this case were requesting a interpreter, and the school district denied claiming the student was succeeding "academically, socially, and emotionally without this assistance." The court ruled that the IEP "was a basic floor of opportunity and did not require the best possible education for students with disabilities." This case is significant because it defined the standard for FAPE.

Schaffer vs Weast

Winkelman v. Parma City School District

May 21, 2007

The parents alleged "they have their own procedural safeguards under IDEA, and had the right to represent themselves", the district rejected this claiming "it does not permit parents to represent their own children prose." The court ruled the parents have "substantive rights of their own under IDEA." This case is significant it gave the parents their own set of procedural safe guards.
