  • Malcolm X Is Assassinated

    Malcolm X's assassination became an inspiration for the Black Panther Party Movement.
  • The Beginnning of the Black Panther Party

    In Oakland California, Huey Newton, and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party for self-defense.
  • First Issue of the Black Panther Party

    The party's official news organ goes into distribution. A month later, the party marched on the Californian. state capital fully armed, the police responded by immediately arresting him and all 30 armed Panthers.
  • Stokely Carmichael Becomes Prime Minster of the Black Panther Party

    Stokely Carmichael is recruited into the party and soon becomes the party's prime minister.
  • Bobby Hutton Death

    In West Oakland, 17-year-old Bobby Hutton, Panther Party treasurer, is shot dead by Oakland police.
  • Panther Party creates Programs for their Community

    From 1969 onward, the Party created social programs, including the Free Breakfast for Children Programs, education programs, and community health clinics.
  • President J. Edgar Hoover's Opinion

    President J. Edgar Hoover publicly states that the Panthers are the "greatest threat to the internal security of the country". In march of 1970, the FBI begins to some seeds of factionalism in the Panther Party.
  • Black Community Survival Conference

    The Black Community Survival Conference is held at Oakland Civic Auditorium. Ten thousand bags of groceries are given away.
  • Black Panther Party is dissolved

    Oakland Community School closes. Newton is charged with embezzling $600,00 from the school. Sentenced to six months after pleading no contest to stealing $15,000 in state aid intended for the school.
  • Death of Huey Newton

    Huey Newton is shot to death on a West Oakland street by gang member Tyrone Robinson, allegedly over a drug deal.
