A fugitive slave law was passed saying that your slave ran away you could put up a wanted poster and if they were returned to you, you would pay the man or police man who returned it and be allowed to keep your slave. -
A New Ban
Congress bans the import of slaves from everywhere. -

Harriet Tubman escapes and becomes one of the most celebrated leaders of the Underground Railroad. -
Free At Last
President Lincoln declares all slaves free, but some people went against the President's will and still kept slaves illegally. -
The 15th Amendment
The 15th amendment was added to the Constitution, saying that all Black men had the right to vote. A few states charged the blacks to vote, making it harder for them. It was usually pretty expensive, and most could not afford it while trying to maintain a household and supplying for their families. -

Little Rock Nine attends an all white high school, barely making it into school, and having to be escorted by the 101st Airborne Division everyday to school.
One girl even had acid thrown in her eyes, and if one of the men from the division had not thrown water into her eyes, she would have been blind. -
MLKJ Jailed During Protest
Martin Luther King Jr. was jailed during one of his protests against racism. -
MLKJ is Assassinated
Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated while standing on his hotel balcony just hours after delivering his "I Have A Dream" speech. -
Rodney King Beating
The 1st race riot in decades outbreaks in L.A. after 4 white police officers were caught on tape beating a man named Rodney King. He suffered from a broken leg, bruises, and cuts. All 4 officers were immediatley removed from the field and assigned to desk jobs. -
