    French and Indian War
    With the Treaty of Utrecht, France gave Nova Scotia and Newfoundland to Britain. The end of thee French and Indian war brought Britain all of French-Canada. This huge chunk of territory would expand Britain's territory and eventually become the United Kingdom of Great Britain with Scotland and Wales. The free trade in this new country created a huge market for farmers and manufacturers.
  • The Colonies and the Stamp Act

    The Colonies and the Stamp Act
    13 colonies settled along the East coast of North America which were part of Britain's growing empire. Regulations were in place to try to grow the economy of these colonies, making them export more than they import. However, the Stamp Act imposed taxes on items such as newspapers and pamphlets. This then lead to a mass rebel against Britain because of the taxation without representation.

    Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party
    British soldiers in Boston opened fire on a crowd. The death of 5 colonists would become known as the Boston Massacre. The Boston tea party followed 3 years later when several colonists hurled a cargo of British tea into the harbor in protest of taxes on tea. Tension built up overtime with more pressure from both sides until the colonists declared independence.

    Colonists declare independence
    Tension lead to the Revolutionary War in Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts. Most battles resulted in British victory but the colonists were determined to win. The Second Continental Congress voted to declare independence from Britain. American leaders then created the Declaration of Independence to pledge "our lives, our, fortunes, and our sacred honor" for the United States of America.

    France supports the American Revolution, Ending the War
    The tide had turned when the Americans defeated the British at the Battle of Saratoga. Because of this, France had decided to support Americans. Which then lead to the support of the Netherlands and Spain. With a French fleet blocking the British army in at Yorktown, Virginia, George Washington forced them to surrender. The Treaty of Paris was signed two years later to officially end the war.

    The Constitution Becomes Supreme Law of the Land
    The United States was the most progressive government at the time under the Constitution. The new republic served as a safe haven for those searching for freedom from their home country. The Enlightenment ideals had spread to Europe, eventually leading to a revolution in France to rid the monarch and demand freedom.
