The first oil well drilled was in Pennsylvania on August 27th 1859.It was called the Drake Well and was 65.9 feet deep. It was built by Edwin Drake and William A. Smith. -

Railroads Set Up Standard Time Zones
Train operators needed a new time plan that would offer the same train schedule for departure and arrivals. Four new time zones were introduced. every 15 longitudinal degrees, the time changed by an hour, thus creating 24 time zones around the world.
