Destiny's Child Formed
At the young age of 9, Beyoncé met LaTiva Roberson at an audition ("About Destiny's Child"). The two hit it off, and soon formed Destiny's Child. With Beyoncé's father, Mathew Knowles as their manager, the two ryoung girls ecruited Kelendria "Kelly" Rowland, who happened to be Beyoncé's cousin ("About Destiny's Child"). The group would later expand to add LeToya Luckett. The group focused on songs that encourage love and feminism. -
Destiny's Child Debut
After a lot of hard work and dedication, (and a couple of dropouts and replacements), Destiny's Child release their self-titled debut album in the United States ("About Destiny's Child"). The album earned a platnium certificate after it sold over one million copies (Lambe). The group started off strong with Beyoncé's strong voice as the lead, but soon there was drama. -
Destiny's Child Disbands, Not the End for Beyoncé
After many years of trying to make things work, Destiny's Child unanimously decided to disband. Kelly Rowland revealed this to fans at Palau Sant Jordi, saying that the group was leaving on good terms, and that the girls would continue to support and love one another (Kaufman). This was unsuprising to many, as the girls had started to release individual songs. Beyoncé was first, with a multiplatinum solo in 2003, "Dangerously in Love". When Beyoncé went solo, it shows its okay to be independent. -
Dreamgirls
Beyoncé decided to try her hand in acting, and took on the role of a strong black female singer in the movie "Dreamgirls" (Reid). The movie was based in the early 1960s, and showed the difficulties of being black in the music industry. Beyoncé's role in the fictional band called "Dreams" wasn't too different from her role in Destiny's Child, as she was the lead singer and strongest voice. -
Beyoncé Marries Jay-Z
After many years of dating, Beyoncé married Shawn Corey Carter, known by his stage name, Jay-Z. (Carey). The two wanted to keep the wedding private, so they wed in secret. Rumours started to spread that the couple did in fact get married. Jay-Z and Beyoncé soon confirmed the rumours. -
Beyoncé Releases Third Studio Album
Beyoncé released her weakest album, "I Am... Sasha Fierce" in 2008 (McDonald). Beyoncé used the name "Sasha Fierce" as a mechanism to express sexuality on stage and in her songs. Although many of her songs were impowering, Beyoncé felt that she was hiding behind the name, so she stopped using "Sasha Fierce" after this album was released (McDonald). -
Beyonce Sings for the President
Beyonce was personally asked to sing at President Barack Obama's first Inaugural Ball. The President and the First Lady danced for their first time with these new titles to Beyonce's rendition of "At Last" (Lehr Wagner). After her performance, Etta James, the original singer of "At Last", slammed Beyonce for singing her song and "destroying it" (Michels). Beyonce handled the situation with "no comment". -
Beyonce Becomes Independent
Life is But a DreamAfter 16 Grammy Awards and multiple movie appearances under her father's management, Beyonce decided it was time for her to become her own manager (Associated). Beyonce was ready to make a change after she felt overwhelmed and unsure of what she would do in the future. She ultimately decided it was the right decision because she wanted have her father be her support system, rather than a manager. -
Beyonce Becomes Independent (con.)
She knew that it would be difficult, but Beyonce wanted to change her style and sing about subjects she felt were her own. Beyonce inspired millions when she decided to be on her own by showing that a woman can be independent and that she didn't care what other people would say. -
Beyoncé Gives Birth
After the drama of her miscarriage, Beyoncé was nervous to announce her second pregnancy. After a visit to her doctor who told her "if its meant to be, it will be", Beyoncé announced her pregnancy to the world at the VMAs during her performance. Blue Ivy Carter was born shortly after. Beyoncé showed how strong she is because she didn't allow the tragedy to rule her life. -
Inaugural Ball Round 2
Beyoncé was invited to sing at President Obama's second Inaugural Ball in 2013 (Lehr Wagner). She was one of three to perform that night, and she sang the National Anthem at full volume. Many speculated that she had been lip-syncing, but Beyoncé denied these rumours. -

Interview with OprahBeyoncé kept her first pregnancy a secret, out of fear for something bad to happen. In her interview with Oprah, Beyoncé said keeping the secret was hard, but she wanted to make sure it was for real. Beyoncé Performs at the Super Bowl XLVII
Superbowl Halftime 2013 Beyoncé performed at the 2013 SuperBowl, along withKelly Rowland & Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child. Her performance was legendary, with many of her biggest hits being performed. -
"Beyoncé" Is Released
The new 14-song, 17-video visual album is way more explicit than her third album, but Beyonce meant it that way (McDonald). She wanted to explore gender and power, and display love at the same time. Her album celebrates black womanhood and being yourself. This album was the 12th biggest-selling album of 2013, generating over 900,000 sales in 10 days after it was released.
