It was this event that led to Hitler's first piece of world fame after being arrested and imprisoned for treason. During the time he spent in prison, he wrote most of his controversial book Mein Kampf. The realisation that the government would act forcibly led him to use legal means to gain power in Germany. -

The Great Depression
The Great Depression was a worldwide economic crash beginning in 1929 and lasting to the early 1940s. Caused by a stock market crash in October of 1929, it was the longest lasting and most severe of all the depressions in history. Recovery began in the mid 1930s for most countries, but was not complete until the early 1940s when the war kickstarted production and the affected countries war economies. -
