  • Mussolini's Movement (Social)

    This was the day that 30,000 facist marched into Rome and demanded that Mussolini be put in charge of the Government. After much violence and riots, King Victor Emmanuel III put Mussolini in charge. I said this was a social event because it showed how the people acted during this time and what kind of groups they were forming.
  • Black Tuesday (Economic)

    This was the day tha the U.S. stock market crashed. Due to people buying on margin, many people went thousands of dollars into debt. This caused a ripple effect in many other countires, making a worldwide debt crisis. This was the final evenet that lead to the Great Depression in the U.S. This event is economic because it revolves around the U.S. and world eocnomy.
  • Japan Invades Machuria (Military

    This was the day that Japan first invaded Manchuria, which is located in China. This was quite an extroidinary event because the Chinese had many more soldiers than Japan. In the end, the Japanese won due to better training and equipment. This is a military event because it involves invasion.
  • FDR's Inaguration (Political)

    This was the day that FDR became president of the United States. He was the president that helped the economy get back on track, and created the New Deal. This is a politcal event because it has to do with electing a leader.
  • Italy Attacks Ethiopia (Military)

    Italy attacked Ethiopia due to a bad tentions from the 1890's. Italy had tried to conquer Ethiopia and Ethiopia hasd successfully resisted. Italy easily conquered Ethiopia here due to Italy's more advanced technology (airplanes, tanks). This is a military event because it invoves a takeover and invasion.
  • Germany Occupies Rhineland (Dip/Mil)

    Rhineland is an area between France and Germany that was a major industrialization area. The French was stunned by this invasion, but did not intervene. This made it easier for Germany to invade France and Belgium. This is a diplomatic/military event because it involves occupying land in differnet countries.
  • The Great Purge (Political)

    This is when Stalin killed many people in Russia to create his type of government. It was said that 8-13 million people perished during the Great Purge. This is a political event because this is when Stalin gained complete control over the Communist Party, marking it as a political revolution.
  • Hitler Plans to Expand (Political)

    Hitler at this time told his advisors that he was planning on morphing Austria and Czechosovakia as part of the Third Reich. This would, of course, lead to Hitler taking over these countries, trying to create his empire. This is a political event because it showed what Hitler's plans were as a political leader. (It is not military because he is not taking them over, he is discussing it with political advisors).
  • The Munich Conference (Diplomatic)

    The Munich Conference was a meeting between Germany, France, Britain, and Italy in Munich, Germany. The idea was from Mussiolini, in an attempt to see if they could work anything out. They agreed that Hitler could have Sudetenland, but had to respect Czchoslovakia's borders. This is a diplomatic event because it involves discussion among many nations.
  • Hitler Invades Poland (Military)

    This was the date that Hitler moved in and conquered poland. This was a surprise attack and lead to the demise of Warsaw. Warsaw was nearly compleley destroyed by the end of WWII. It was also the spot of a very famous rebellion against the Nazi's. This was a military event because it involved a military takeover.
  • Hitler Attacks Denmark and Norway (Military)

    This marked the event that Hitler made a surprise attack on Denmark and Norway. Denmakr fell to Germany in just 4 hours after the attack. Norway stood ground 2 months before surrendering. This is a military event because it progresses Hitler's chances of having an empire through military might.
  • Germany invades Yugoslavia and Greece (Military)

    Also known as War in the Balkans, this was a military attack that expanded Hitler's empire. It was a military event because it represented how strong Hitler's army was. Yugoslavia fell in just 11 days and Greece surrendered in 17.
  • Operation Barbarossa (Military)

    Operation Barbarossa was Hitlers plan to invade the Soviet Union.This attack was a complete surprise since the Soviet Union and Germany had an agreement to not attack each other. Since the Soviet Union armies were not prepared, Germany was able to get 500 miles into the country within a week. This is a military event because it involves battles and invasions.

    The Atlantic Charter was an agreement made by Roosevelt and Churchill. It allowed free trade with nations and established the rights of people to pick a government of their own. This was big since much trade had stopped with countries. This also became a source for the peace plan after WWII. This is a diplomatic event because it involves different national leaders making decisions.
  • Pearl Harbor (Military)

    Pearl Harbor was a military base in Hawaii that was attacked by Japanese bombs. This was the day that America first joined in on the war. Over 2,300 people died that day, making it one of the most tragic among American tragedies. This is a military event due because it involved weaponary that attacked a military base.
  • The Battle of Midway (Military)

    The Battle of Midway was a battle that changed the direction of the war. American pilots were able to destroy 332 Japanese planes, and other military vehicles. This was lead by admiral Chester Nimitz. Admiral Yamamoto was in command of the Japanese fleet. This is a military event because it involves differnt armies attacking each other.
  • The Battle of Stalingrad (Military)

    This was a batttle between Germany and the Soviet Union. The city was named after Stalin, who wanted the city defended at any cost. Hitler also refused to retreat. The Germans were already losing when the Russian winters came, making it unbearable to the the Nazi soldiers. Even though most of the city was destroyed, hitler lost over one million soldiers. This is a military event because it involved miiltary attacks and invasions of land.
  • The Battle of Guadalcanal (Military)

    This was an Ally attack on a Japanese air base on Guadalcanal. This attack was lead by General Douglas MacArthur. This was the first day of the six month battle. In the end , the Japanese retreated from the island. The island is now nicknamed, 'The Island of Death'. This is a military event because it involved land and sea warfare.
  • V-E Day (Social)

    This was the day that the Third Reich's surrender was officially signed. It took place in Berlin and became known as V-E Day. This stands for Victory in Europe day. The six year war had finally ended in Europe. This is a social event because it became a holiday that represented the times that everyone lived in. It was a part of their history and made a holiday for it.
  • The First A-Bomb (Technological/Cultural)

    The atomic bomb was first exploded in New Mexico. This was to test it and see what it could do. This was the strongest and most dangerous weapon the world had ever seen. This is a technological event because this bomb was newly created (and was only created due to the war). Without this first explosion, there would not be other atomic bombs or other weapons today. It also changed how the culture was during the Cold War (Atomic threats and how people thought of war).
