This is the Holocaust period, Nazis tried to eradicate the jewish people in (Western Poland) Litherania, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Denmark, Yugoslavia, Greece, and Norway. Most Jews were living in german controlled areas. The Jews other countries (Litherania; where our book takes place) were basically in the same situation as Germany. -

Barly surviving the winter
The repeater had frostbite, scuvey had become a problem among the camp. Also lice would feast on their open soars. Around this time in mid December, they find a huge dead owel and take it back to camp. Janina sneaks it into camp in her coat. They cooked it on a makeshift stove and it was the best meal they had in a long time. -
Christmas came
The weather continued, The smell of butter and cocoa made ms. Rismas cry. They got to enjoy canned meals for this day. -
