The Attack
While surfing off of Kauais North Shore, Bethany Hamilton was suddenly attacked by a 14 foot Tiger Shark at the age of 13. After loosing 60% of her blood, and going through several surgeries Bethany survives the attack; but looses her left arm. This marks the begining of Bethany's new life and the hardships she must learn to overcome. Because of her great courage, i beleive she had alot of power becasue she made it out alive and her attitude toward the situation takes on the inperational aspect -

The first victory
After months of training and hard work, Bethany was finally ready to enter in her first major competion since the attack. From her prievious surfing record, Bethnay was an outstanding athlete. Many people thought it would be nearly impossible for her to hold her record up with out her left arm. no one was expecting Bethnay to retun to surifing so quikly; many people thought she would not return at all. Surprising everyone, Bethnay placed 5th at Open Women's Division of the NSSA Championships. -

The Press and Social Work
Millions of people were interested in Bethany's story. Many reporters and social media followed up on her story, they even wanted to flim a documentarty on her in Indonesia entiled "Heart of a soul surfer". Whie fimling, Bethnany also worked with children and tough young girls how to surf. while giving back to the community, the community was giving back to her. She held much power in her community to not only inspire but to help build a greater better community through all her charity work. -
Sharing her story
"Heart of a Soul Surfer" premiered in mid Feburary, and Bethany continues to share her story through speaking in places such as Universal Studios, local churches and traveling to many different countires such as Mexico and Indonesia offering surf classes and motivational speaking. Books such as "Ask Bethanay" and Rise Above" as well as a fictional series entiled "Soul Surfer" were written. As she gained popularity, power also played a role in her ability to influence. -

Bethnay is now married and is 23 years old. living in Hawaii, she still continues to surf. Today, Bethanay still sets a good exaple to many young kids. She is still involved in many charoties and makes special apperences from time to time. Her story will forvever have the power to influence many. -
